Washington, DC Chapter Programs

WDC Youth Development Program

In the spirit of the motto of our alma mater, Tennessee State University, ' Think, Work, Serve ', the local Washington, DC chapter of the Tennessee State University Alumni Association endeavors to continue the legacy of TSU by conceiving ways to serve our local community.  Our Youth Development Programs comprise a diverse set of activities that chapter members volunteer for as part of their commitment to carry out the TSU tradition.  Local public and private schools are encouraged to call upon our members to extend their support to other community-based programs geared toward youth career development.  Youth development activities undertaken by chapter members include:

WDC Scholarship Program

The Tennessee State University Alumni Association Washington DC METRO Chapter (TSUAA WDC) Scholarship Program was initiated over 30 years ago and restructured in 1984 for the purpose of providing scholarships for students from the Washington DC area. Based on the availability of funds, the scholarship program provides financial and other aid to deserving and qualifying Washington Area youth. A major source of funding for the scholarship program is the Chapter's annual scholarship dinner and dance.

Funds that support scholarships and other forms of student academic assistance are obtained from the following sources:

Tuition Aid Scholarships

Standard scholarships include the partial payment of TSU tuition for a one year period, with renewal options for a maximum period of 4 consecutive years. These funds will be paid through the University.

Book Scholarships

These scholarship awards aid deserving students with other expenses besides tuition. Verification of need will be obtained through the University. The intent is to disperse funds through the TSU Office of Development except in extenuating circumstances based on financial need.

Emergency Scholarships

>These awards exist for student emergency circumstances brought to the attention of the Chapter by the University or by the student.   All proceeds from the annual GM raffle will be used for emergency scholarships in addition to any portion of general scholarship funds available.

Loans

This fund exists for extenuating or unforeseen circumstances for full tuition scholarships recipients. The loan may be made to supplement the student financial needs not provided by the Chapter’s scholarship awards. Loans are approved on a case by case basis.
